High priced Sushi

Located in the commercial centre Puerta de Banus, Wasabi is conveniently situated between Nueva Andalucia and Puerto Banus. I am the ultimate sushi fan, so am having difficulties critiquing Wasabi. I love the sushi they serve, it just saddens me when I notice the prices they charge. Not necessarily the prices printed on their menus, but the amount of sushi you are served for the listed price.  Let me illustrate with a Philadelphia roll, a standard that most sushi restaurants offer. The €5.95 price tag was respectable, until I noticed it is for three pieces. That means to receive eight slices you would be paying almost €15,00, a stark comparison to the €9.00 you would pay elsewhere in the region.

I originate from Denmark, one of the most expensive countries in the world, we appreciate fine Sushi and are willing to pay for it. However Denmark doesn’t reach prices like these even in the crème de la crème of fine dining sushi restaurants.

Wasabi has the opportunity to really put sushi on the map in Marbella, but only if they served the same quality and doubled the quantity. When my bill is presented to me, I was astonished as it reached the €50 mark when dining alone, the enjoyment I received from the meal vanished before my eyes. If the price had been closer to €30, Wasabi would have gained a very regular, very happy customer.

I really hope the owners rethink their price structure or Wasabi could be heading south.

All in All great sushi, but way too expensive.
