Simply Shiraz

With plenty going on, the Puerto Deportivo de Marbella always has a buzz about it, and one of the most popular places is Shiraz Bar Restaurant. Shiraz’s large terrace overlooking the boats is a great place to base yourself. It’s a family affair – Celso runs Shiraz, while brother Carlos looks after the bar – and makes some of the meanest Mojitos in Marbella, – while Celso’s partner Michelle looks after the customers in her own, unmistakable style.

We were there for lunch and rather than go for the great value set lunch (under€ 10) we decided to let Celso bring us a selection of dishes. A quick look at the menu revealed starters such as Gazpacho, Cream of leek and potato soup, Tomato and goats cheese salad and more substantial dishes including Steamed mussels, Aubergine, mozzerella and tomato tower (which is always popular), Langostines, Tempura, Thai Yellow Curry (either prawn or chicken), Roast Beef Stroganof, Pork Fillet Brochet with Moroccan Spices, Fresh tuna (from the nearby fishing port) Cod and Salmon Fish cakes and a selection of Burgers, Noodles and Salads. Great simple food

We started with a selection of dishes including Carpaccio of Beef, Chicken tempura, and Fish cakes with a spicy sauce and followed this with the Medalion of pork fillet with creamy mash potato and tuna with stir fry noodles. We even had room for a little chocolate cake – we weren’t drinking so had to have some form of guilty pleasure!

Inside Shiraz has a comfortable bar area with seating for enjoying the large flat screen TVs (especially if Barcelona are playing – Celso is a Barca fan) and there are also local artists’ works on the walls, as well as a comfortable dining area. And proving especially popular is the kids’ corner complete with colouring books.

With frequent live music, as well as tapas to share and the return of its legendary Sunday Roasts – Shiraz really is the sort of unpretentious great value restaurant that you’ve been looking for.
