Major mishap

Situated on the Golden Mile this “fine dining “restaurant has been established for over two years. Fronted by Major James Hewitt and owned by the Metrogrupo who also own the successful Old Joy’s Pub in Puerto Banus, Jack’s American Brasserie and Mumtaz, this establishment has cemented itself firmly into the culinary timetable of locals and visitors alike.

My fellow diners and I arrived just one hour after the doors opened to find the restaurant over half full, a good start! Our aperitifs and starters were served promptly and the waitress was charming and knowledgeable, this was all going too well. Plates taken away and main courses imminent, wine glasses refreshed regularly, glowing review material! We spoke too soon!

The main course, Lobster Linguini arrived lukewarm! As I like my food piping hot, I asked the waitress to make me the dish again. She returned with the same plate and explained that the chef “serves this dish warm”! Nice of him to mention that on the menu!! The vegetables accompanying the main course of one of my dining companions were overcooked and tasteless. Three of the four meals arrived together, one a few minutes afterwards.

On the next table a large group of well-heeled diners seemingly similarly unimpressed with not being able to receive the wine they ordered, got up and left! This was going downhill fast.

Onto our second bottle of Sancerre, clearly corked and bearing no similarity to its predecessor, arghhh, waitress now showing signs of stress, we skipped dessert, settled the bill and left.

I had dined at polo house many times before and was regularly left with a good impression but not on this visit! I would love to hear of other people’s experiences…….
