Overpriced, overrated

I had heard so many disappointing comments about Love to Eat on the Golden Mile, I felt it was time to explore the truth. Sadly the quaint exterior proved to be the only positive attribute I fell across. We followed the normal process you undertake on arriving at a restaurant and took a seat at one of the numerous tables, we had extensive choice being the only guests (during peak time), so selected a seat adjacent to the bar.

Unfortunately the dining concept Love to Eat follows was not explained to us on arrival resulting in a lengthy wait before we ordered our food. Eventually we went to the counter where we were finally informed we had to make our choice at the till, an unnecessary negative that could have been avoided. The food, ranging from traditional spaghetti bolognaise to an inviting chicken curry, looked appetizing. However as the food was uncovered and unprotected from the elements, the wide open front door was a concern. Despite the derisory first impression, we hoped the food would amaze and proceeded to order chicken curry and rice, asparagus and broccoli quiche accompanied by potato salad and salmon fishcakes. We returned to our table to wait, considering the counter was a mere 3 feet away and the food was already prepared, only needing to be heated, we expected a minimal wait. Fifteen minutes later we were still without our meals, when they did arrive we were pleasantly surprised by the presentation, sadly that’s as far as our gratitude survived.

The chicken curry was bland and the rice undercooked, resulting in a chewy, unappetizing texture. The quiche, although by far the most appealing of the dishes was particularly average and non-recommendable. Our final dish, salmon fishcake, emphasis on fishcake – singular, was dry, completely substandard and priced at five euros, with no accompaniment. Whilst waiting for our bill we browsed the shop hoping to find a gift required for our ongoing trip, unfortunately with sugared almonds priced at 18 euros and the cheapest box of chocolate starting at 81 euros, we decided to give it a miss and proceeded to the till. I can reveal that that following my trip to Love to Eat, I concur with the consensus and will not be returning any time soon.
