Divine dining at KM0

KM0 is a new fabulous, healthy restaurant in San Pedro which caters for all – vegans, vegetarians and meat-lovers. Besides from their scrumptious food, what also intrigued me was the name which came from the fact that all their suppliers are local (zero kilometres away) to reduce carbon footprint by avoiding overseas delivery as well as helping local businesses and farmers.

To start I had the grilled duo of scallops which were cooked to perfection, served over orange daikon with creamed sweet potato and a light dressing made from olive oil, anchovies, sun dried tomatoes and balsamic vinegar – this was absolutely divine! For my main, I chose the free-range chicken breast filled with plums, dates and almonds served with a Mirin (Japanese vinegar) and Coconut sauce, while my friend had the beef stewed in red wine. The quality of the meat was excellent and the chicken was perfectly moist. Both dishes were served with potatoes, dried apricots and asparagus.

Our two other dining companions both opted for fish – Sea Bass and slow cooked Cod loin both served on “black wheat” which is cooked in squid ink and vegetable julienne. This seemed quite odd and daring at first but proved to be just as delicious!

For dessert we shared a gluten-free roast banana and dulce de leche cheesecake with chocolate crunch which was to die for!

The staff were very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. All in all we had a brilliant evening and were impressed by everything from the exceptional food to the beautiful rustic decor. I will definitely be visiting again soon!
