Creative Spanish kitchen with a twist

My husband and I went out for a special dinner to restaurant Messina in Marbella not long ago, as we had heard good reports from friends and other locals. The restaurant has been open for some time now and I was especially curios as I was told the cuisine has a Heston- style experimental touch to it.

As it was our first visit at Messina we chose a 6 course taster menu, which was every bit as creative as I imagined it to be, very tasty and stunningly beautiful in its presentation. The staff has been very friendly & professional right from the moment we walked in the door and the décor and overall feel in the restaurant is modern and stylish, yet made us feel comfortable.

The very attentive head of service explained every course on the way and the wine we ordered to go with our courses. They have been very accommodating changing their taster menu to a purely vegetarian and fish menu for me, which I was very delighted to enjoy.

Mauricio Giovanini has created something amazing with his unique style of cuisine,  using local produce (olive oil from Ronda, local fish from Marbella, Malaga babygoat) and local classics Iberian pork, but presents it  with a twist playing with textures, creating sauces, foams and even a nitrogen ginger fusion for his own and latest creation fusion- sushi (third version), a tuna sashimi, which was melting in our mouths, it was such an excellent quality of tuna.

After plenty of satisfying taster courses we reached the dessert, which was a Spanish classic, a  Torrija but Thai style and with his own twist Mauricio Giovanini has taken to perfection in Messina restaurant. I would definitely go again and can only recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or for somebody who is looking for something a little different.
