Dining with a Difference

Described to me as an” institution” on the coast and one of Marbella’s premier venues, Buddha Beach was somewhere I had been meaning to visit but had never got around to doing so.

I arrived on Sunday the 9th of October to learn that this was in fact their last day of trading, but found a very busy and informal atmosphere with all of the dining tables taken!  I could have been seated earlier if only I could have parked closer. As I never make reservations, I waited patiently for a table to become available and enjoyed one of Buddha’s cocktails whilst watching the revelry unfold.

Some 40 minutes later we were escorted to our table and promptly given menus, deciding on skewered satay king prawns and calamari to start. We asked our waitress for recommendations for our main course, and rather than the predictable, “it’s all good”, we were suitably impressed by her frank and honest opinion. “As it’s our last day, there is no Chateaubriand but we do have some nice sirloin available and the Thai green chicken curry is a popular favourite, but I would personally recommend the beer battered fish and chips and minted pea puree.” Mmm… decisions, decisions.  We ended up opting for the sirloin which duly arrived in good time on an extensive platter of mushrooms potatoes and onion rings!

Unpretentious, nicely cooked to the requested medium rare and washed down with a perfect “Crianza.” Sated and satisfied, we asked for the bill, which to our delight was slightly under what we had predicted at €70 including drinks but took slightly longer to arrive than we had anticipated. However the scantily clad dancers providing intriguing entertainment and an electric violinist accompanying the DJ made it an enjoyable experience with little to fault. Mental note to oneself, don’t leave it so long to visit next year!
