Beachside bliss

Wowed by the grandeur of this stunning location on arrival, I repeatedly asked myself why I had waited so long for my first dining experience here. However, there is much more to Bora Bora than simply enjoying its delicious cuisine; there is the enticing pool area, an abundance of relaxing seating areas and, of course, the Mediterranean sea.

This stunning venue, situated on the beach front in San Pedro, can be enjoyed day or night. Open from 9am until the last person drops, it has a wealth of entertainment on offer. Bora Bora certainly knows how to throw a good bash and you are guaranteed to have a fun night.

The 195-square metre pool is surrounded with comfortable reclining loungers complete with shade panels for your head (an excellent idea for when you want to lose yourself in a good book!), circular beds for sharing with friends, shading umbrellas and even sandy floor areas – it really is a beach club. The single loungers can be hired out from €10, very competitive for beach side. The pool, recently refurbished, is now heated allowing enjoyment all year round. Adapted so that the water is chest height, making it suitable for leisurely swims or energetic pool parties.

This inviting beach club, established more than 20 years ago, but under new ownership from 2008, has recently undergone a major refurbishment. The indoor disco and restaurant area has been updated, allowing use throughout the winter months unlike many other beach clubs. The VIP lounge area is now more accommodating, and can be privately hired for events and weddings.

Follow the wooden boardwalk from Bora Bora to the beach, to find more beds and thatched umbrellas; affording unrestricted views of the coast of Africa. Bora Bora’s design is clean and minimalistic with splashes of the signature red and blue colour scheme amid the palm trees and swinging rope chairs.

Had enough of the sun? Retire to the covered seating area for a cocktail or two, or experience the delicious menu in one of the many dining areas. Specialising in Italian and Spanish cuisine, all ingredients are sourced locally or from Italy, making the dining experience wonderfully authentic. Each dish is carefully thought out and the presentation is flawless. The kitchen hosts an array of chefs, all Italian in origin, serving up a mouthwatering selection of dishes.

Allowing the skilled chefs to choose for us, we dined on a feast of Fusilloni pasta, cooked to perfection, with a light pesto sauce and delectable tiger prawns. Being a party of four, we democratically divided the three shrimps allowing us each a taste. Gratin Bora Bora lobster, one of the most extravagant dishes on the bulging menu, was selected for us from the choice of specials. The breadcrumb topping was grilled to perfection, adding that extra crunch to the dish. Succulent Dorada, the fresh fish of the day, served with Provencal vegetables, encased in a filo pastry parcel, a beef tomato, along with a creamy dauphinoise potato timbale. Followed by roast duck, so juicy it fell apart, accompanied by cassis and strawberries.

Next came Two eye-popping desserts: a chocolate fondant with fudge, oozing with soft, melted chocolate and a framboisier; raspberry sorbet, vanilla ice cream, meringue and raspberry coulis. This fruity end to the meal cleansed the palate, tempting us to try one of Bora Bora’s exotic cocktails. The experienced staff mix all of the classics, from Daiquiris and G&Ts, to glamorous melon or mango Mojitos, along with the tasty Pacific Manhattan and refreshing shakes.

Combining the large pool, the Med, ample sunbathing spaces, lunch, dinner and cocktails, you could pretty much spend your whole life at Bora Bora Beach Club. The club’s Facebook page is updated daily with information on the latest parties and upcoming events. Search for Bora Bora Marbella, and “like” the page to stay in the loop. This really is a venue that has something for everyone, YEAR ROUND.
