Bellariaific Bliss!

If the population of Nueva Andalucia begins to put on weight  over the next few months, you can point the finger of blame fairly and squarely at Bellaria. The brainchild of energetic entrepreneurs Amanda Gedeon and Julian Geismar, Bellaria was one of the best kept secrets in Marbella last year, as Amanda came up with a succession of fantastic cakes, muffins and other tempting treats, all prepared from a kitchen in Nueva Andalucia. But popular demand has lead to Amanda and her business partner Julian finally opening Bellaria as a cafe.

Located by the H10 Andalucia Plaza Hotel, next to Regina’s Restaurant, Bellaria isn’t the largest venue but it does have plenty of tables outside where you can catch a few rays and catch up with gossip over a coffee.

Inside Bellaria is light, bright and spotless and there are a variety of freshly baked cakes, cookies and muffins on display, as well as Belgian Chocolates, Macarons and Organic Bread. There is a small menu, with a fresh soup served every day as well as sandwiches to eat in or take away. I grabbed a chicken with pesto, cream cheese and avocado to go recently, and when I ate it at my desk later, had one of those “time stood still” moments.

If you are feeling sinful then the cakes are highly recommended – especially the Fruits of the Forest Cheesecake (that produced a look of ecstasy on a female friend that made it difficult for me to sleep that night) and my personal favourite Carrot Cake, that I have decreed is the new Rock n Roll.
