Marbella Golf & Country Club

Marbella Golf & Country Club is located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, just five minutes away from the cosmopolitan city of Marbella.

A few changes have been made to the course since 2010. An unfortunate dispute between owners meant a relocation of holes 8 through 12 making it impossible to walk this course due to large distances from green to tee. The 35 year old unfinished building has finally been knocked down, making way for a beautiful view from the club house.

The course

Designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Senior in the late 80’s the 6.000 meter long 18-hole links course with a par of 72, have a high level of difficulty not suited for high handicapped players and it is a challenge for all. Narrow fairways shaping right to left and left to right calls for decision making on every tee, for the long hitters it is possible to go for some of the par fours in one. The large highly undulating greens keeps you second guessing your choice of line on every put.  All in all great fun, but to be sure you better bring at least half a dozen golf balls with you, just in case….

The fairways and greens are in great condition almost all year round, however attention is needed on some of the tee boxes, but it seems like the improve the course for every time we return, making it better and better.

A short course as this one is, calls for a high degree of difficulty and they have certainly achieved this, unfortunately some of the original design has been lost due to the above mentioned hole relocation.

In order to win the battle you need to bring your A-game as well as a sense of humour in case you left your A-game behind. This course will try to beat you on every hole, seek out your weakness and frown upon it. I will not recommend the course to a temperamental player, put on your happy face enjoy the views and have great fun with your game.

Marbella Golf & Country Club have certainly realized that we as golfers want value for money and a high level of service, both of which the employees live up to, whether it was on the course or in the Club house. After the design changes the prices have dropped around 25% certainly making a visit “Value for money”.

One of my favourites is the freshly made sandwiches they offer from their service car, where they actually drive back to the club house and make it for you heated or cold, your choice. All in all fantastic service.

Not all of the Club house restaurants are worth a visit, but as the course El Olivo has lowered their prices as well making for a good combination between quality and price. I can certainly recommend their Club sandwich for around 9 Euro. El Olivo is set within the beautiful clubhouse over viewing the Mediterranean, their menu is a combination between French cuisine and Asian dishes. Once again the high level of service shines through and you will leave with a smile on your face, no matter how you did on the course.

Depending on the season you will be able to play a round of golf for around 50 euro, in the winter a little more, this of course with buggy. During the summer a little less, for both seasons you can get a 10% discount when booking on line.

Personal comments:

”A mix of emotions” This course will go to all corners of your personality and probably make you think of all the 7 deadly sins in just one round, normally not something that appeals to me..!

I hate it and I love it…. But maybe that’s why I love the game of golf and choose to come back here over and over.

All in All – I will return with a vengeance.
