El Chaparral Golf Club

With a budget of €5 million, Pepe Ganzedo, the designer of the El Chaparral, has designed a top class golf course. El Chaparral at La Cala, is located 8 km west of Fuengirola, and only 700 meters from the N340.

Many holes on the course have spectacular views over the Mediterranean. It’s very rare to find a course with such variety as this one, no two holes are identical and the vegetation is stunningly beautiful.

The course is 5402 meters from yellow tee and 4594 meters from red tee and it is only on this course you will find six par three holes, six par four holes and six par five holes. The first nine holes were opened on the 30th January 2006 and the last nine opened on February 27th 2006. Now almost six years after its debut, it has maintained its excellent condition.

The Director, Domingo Gavira, is one of the best in his area and has made El Chaparral one of the best and most well-run courses on the Costa del Sol. My father was the first who played the course and compliments it on its consistant high standard. A good tip to all golfers, leave your driver in Bag, you need to hit fairways all day long as you will be punished severely if you don’t.

New buggies

El Chaparral has received 50 new buggies with the latest technology, and not being able to drive on the course, it is important that the buggies are comfortable and safe.

 Golf Academy

El Chaparral has opened a new golf school and boasts some of the best golf instructors. It has one of the coast’s best driving ranges and practice facilities including a giant putting green, bunkers and pitching area.

Members

El Chaparral has several options of membership. You can become a member for six or twelve months. Antonio Rodriquez will recommend which membership will suit you and willingly explain the discounts of membership in the pro shop, restaurant, parking and special guest discounts to other courses on the coast.

Restaurant

El Chaparral has one of the finest clubhouses on the Costa del Sol, including a pro-shop and a great cozy restaurant with a huge terrace overlooking the Mediterranean. The manager and his inspector have been operating this restaurant since it opened in 2006. They produce well-prepared food in all price categories and many parties from all over the Costa del Sol host party’s and weddings here… They have managed to maintain prices that everyone can afford.

Having said this you will need to consider a few things. If you do not have a good day from the tee, it is impossible to get a score in. It’s an annoyance driving a buggy here as you will probably walk up and down the paths more than actually driving the buggy, having to bring several clubs with you for every shot, and the driving range is very expensive.

Coming here and not playing to your full potential will make you leave frustrated. This course will test you to the limit and for many players may keep them from returning. However, I choose to look at this as a challenge and will return with a vengeance, ensuring i play certain holes differently.

Had I been the director, I would have found a way of allowing buggy’s to be driven all over the course, and in turn increasing the pace of play. Whether walking or driving, you will need up to five hours to complete a round.

A great experience lies in store for you with the right mindset, and ensure you truly soak up the landscape.
