Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort

If you enjoy playing a links type course, there is only one in Spain, but what a course…! Alcaidesa Resort consists of two 18 hole courses that are very different, but both of a high quality. Besides the golf courses, you can also find a range of outdoor sporting activities.

Alcaidesa’s central location means that it is just 15 minutes from Gibraltar airport, a close proximity to Sotogrande, with all of its magnificent golf courses. It is easy to reach, whether travelling from North or South, take the A7 and exit at Km. 124th

Alcaidesa has 36 holes, scattered throughout the resort. Alcaidesa flagship – Alcaidesa Links – was built in 1992 and the new Heathland in 2007. The very famous golf designer Dave Thomas designed both of the courses, and they are prepared to host big tournaments in the future.

Links golf course

This magnificent golf course is 5846 yards from white tees, 5613 yards from the yellow tees and 5020 yards from red tees.

When you play this course, there is a clubhouse at the start and finish. We were four players, all agreeing that it could be walked instead of using a buggy. Incredibly lucky with the weather, the wind blew only 15 km. per hour, however, it can be somewhat of a rough experience if it’s windy as it often is. 2 km of the course is located by the beach and has a view of Gibraltar and Africa.

Heathland Golf course

The Heathland course is a lot longer than the Links course. From white tees 6373 meters, from yellow 6047 meter and from red tees 5272 meters. This course is located on several plateaus, with a spectacular view on the entire course. Playing this course is a mix of different types of golf courses, with wide fairways. It will improve over the years, but the conclusion of these two courses is that they are very different from others on the coast. Be aware that this course is impossible to walk. When playing Heathland, we recommend you stop on the bridge between hole 11 and hole 12 and enjoy the incredible view over the mountains, Mediterranean and Gibraltar.

Alcaidesa new clubhouse is situated between the two courses, located on the highest point.  The clubhouse is 3000 sqm. and includes a pro shop, changing facilities, restaurant and conference room suited for banquets and other events. There is room for more than 500 people for conference and more than 200 people for dining in the restaurant. Alongside the clubhouse sees a great two deck driving range, with 72 separate boxes. They have a large pro shop, selling all the famous brands. The only drawback is that prices in the restaurant is a little excessive.

When you have two golf courses, clubhouse, restaurant and Conference facilities, it’s hard to maintain top quality service everywhere. One criticism, the restaurant doesn’t serve food after 6 pm. Since 2005, Alcaidesa Resort has been given predicate ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, only given to courses that meet the new environmental rules and using the latest technology of golf operation.

All in all – whether you are a hard hitter or short and precise, you will find the Alcaidesa Resort a good challenge, well worth the short drive from Marbella.
