VTV Edus Apartments

I’m a big fan of Tarifa. Sea, sand and enough hippie chic surf babes to keep a bearded beach bum like myself happy for days. So when I got a few days off last summer, I decided to hit the Costa de la Luz. Normally I’ll throw a futon in the back of the Freelander and crash, but this time I decided to splash out on an apartment in the town centre. When I came across the VTV Edus Apartments on the web, it looked ideal, with photos showing the bedroom, kitchen and bathroom and I duly clicked and booked my break.

It took me a little while to find the apartments, and the main door was locked so I phoned the mobile, and was told to wait outside for someone to come and let me in. A sulky Polish girl duly turned up and showed me to my apartment.

Now I used to be a drama student in London, so I know what a bedsit looks, feels and smells like, and the one bedroom “apartment” at VTV Edus was a bedsit. Whoevever took the photos of the rooms must have spun around and taken 3 shots. The bathrooms were basic and there were no towels and we couldn’t get Wifi (“maybe on terrace” the Pole explained) But the rooftop terrace had some old gym equipment on it, as well as a beaten up sunlounger and two “rooms” (rather like garden sheds on it) so I didn’t feel like hanging around. I hit the beach.

I got back later that night, had a shower that flooded the bathroom and then spent the evening listening to the interesting pluming groaning, the other guests crashing in at 4am and a (male) lovers’ fight at 6am.

I wouldn’t have minded but this was basically a hostel that was charging €70 a night and tried to hit me with a €20 cleaning charge as well. For a place with no towels.

I won’t be back…
