Classy and unpretentious

If you wish to truly immerse yourself with the Marbella glitterati, make sure you reside at The Marbella Club, on the Golden Mile. In my opinion, if it’s good enough for David and Victoria Beckham, it’s good enough for me and I have to say, as soon as I stepped into the old Hollywood-esque reception, I could see why the world’s most famous power couple chose to enjoy Marbella from the comfort of this Beverly Hills style hotel. It’s not only the modern day A-listers who have set foot in these famous grounds, back in the day, The Marbella Club attracted the likes of Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. Thankfully the hotel has retained its vintage, old-school class with an unpretentious atmosphere and a sophisticated scene that is more about subtlety than about being on show.  A truly refreshing ambiance since Marbella has notably become the youth of reality television’s local hangout.

Originally built by Prince Alfonso of Hohenlohe-Langenburg as his private residence, before being turned into a hotel in the mid ‘80s, the complex is set beside the beach, almost exactly mid-way between Puerto Banus and Marbella. 121 sumptuous suites and bedrooms including 16 well-appointed villas are scattered throughout the extensive grounds, intertwined with a beach club, numerous outdoor heated swimming pools, an 800-metre Thalasso spa, three bars and two restaurants. The facilities of the adjacent Puente Romano Hotel are also available to the residents of the Marbella Club, ideal if you wish to enjoy an afternoon game of tennis or an early morning workout. The Thalasso Spa is renowned as one of the best spa’s within Europe, having enjoyed the use of the indoor heated seawater swimming pool, Turkish hammans, saunas, the relaxation room, and experience a number of luxurious treatments, I can happily validate this accolade.

If a world famous spa and copious varieties of activities are not magnetic enough for you, could their Michelin star chef draw you in? Foodies come in droves to sample the culinary offerings of Juan Galvez, the Hotel’s Executive Chef, responsible for the design and inspiration behind all of the menus on offer. His passion and dedication to the trade is evident in every dish, from the sumptuous and decedent Beach Club Buffet to the sophisticated traditional offerings at the avant garde MC Café. With an excitingly extensive array of options and perpetually faultless quality it’s hardly surprising that the Marbella Club is a favourite among the rich, famous and downright fabulous.
